Foxe's Book of Martyrs
For many years, this book has been second in popularity only to the Holy Bible. It was most instrumental in fueling the protestant reformation as it gives in depth descriptions of the atrocities committed against these humble followers of Christ. Their only offence was not conforming to the Roman Catholic Papal Authority. This chiefly being refusing to attend mass and refusing absolution from the priests.
You will find famous names such as the twelve Apostles along with Ignatius and Polycarp who quickly followed them to martyrdom. You will also find Wicliffe, Luther, Tyndale, Calvin, Bunyan and John Wesley among others less known.
I strongly urge that you read this entire body of work in order to understand how grateful we should be for the religious liberties we enjoy today. The blood of millions has been innocently spilt for the freedoms that we enjoy today. While our children are only taught part of the history concerning the events of the dark ages and even the renaissance, reading this work will show you so much that has purposely been omitted as the forces of evil do not want us to know what has happened in the past as we will be enlightened as to what we should be on the look out for in this day and age.
